'It's like they never miss a pass': Swansea's Ethan Galbraith renews contest with City.

Ethan Galbraith breaks into a smile as he remembers the nail-biting final moments of his team's stunning fightback victory against Nottingham Forest in the League Cup. That match ended with Galbraith briefly donning a spectator's eyewear following the on-field celebration.

During the final moments of stoppage time, Galbraith rattled the woodwork with a powerful shot from outside the box, and his teammate immediately hammered in the loose ball before charging toward the crowd to celebrate, with the crowd congregating around the players.

Extraordinary Turnaround

The result capped an incredible comeback given the Welsh side had trailed 2-0 deep into the second half. Amid the euphoria, there was some collateral damage. The midfielder recalled, "There was a fan sort of calling out and we were puzzled: 'What's he on about here?' Then we saw the glasses. It was a bit of banter putting them on. We are on the pitch as players but we're people, too, so to have a joke with the fans is always good."

Pep Guardiola Test

That win secured a next round match at home against Pep Guardiola's side on Wednesday, a team Galbraith came close against at the comparable phase of the FA Cup with Leyton Orient in February. He had a prime vantage point when his former team took the lead in remarkable manner, with Jamie Donley's volley from about way out going in via the bar and the City goalkeeper. Many argued that it was recorded as an own goal.

"You would have hoped they would've credited him for having a go from that distance," says Galbraith, who started in midfield before shifting to right flank after the team changed formation. That meant getting to grips with City's winger, with whom he traded tops, and the player was among the City players who complimented the way his former team attacked the game.

Guardiola's System

"Fitness-wise they are very good but even the fundamentals and routine actions, they can just perform consistently," Galbraith says. "It appears that they never miss a pass and they understand how to dictate and neutralize a game. You can think you're doing well and then without warning they will just deliver a through ball through a line without you even seeing. You have to be focused at all times of the game. It demands a resilient mindset and concentration just to stay in the game."

Welsh Transition

The club pushed to sign Galbraith in January and secured his signature to bring him in in the summer in a significant move. He became a favorite as a popular figure across a couple of years at Leyton Orient and has swiftly achieved similar status in south Wales. At his previous team he reunited with the coach, who previously gave Galbraith his initial sustained opportunity in professional games on loan at a League One side from Manchester United. Then came a spell at lower division the Manchester club, before he departed Manchester United.

Learning Curve

"I was likely a bit naive going into men's football. I think a lot of players would say development squad matches is entirely separate. Sometimes it feels like play is circulated without real physicality. You see few hard challenges. Once you start playing professional matches you have to adjust fast."

Country Call-ups

His progress reflects that development for both domestically and internationally, shining for Northern Ireland, who remain in contention for the World Cup next summer via the playoffs and for whom he has been selected in the last several matches, including home and away encounters against Germany. His former international manager, Galbraith's ex- international manager, paid him the ultimate compliment, saying he was Northern Ireland's "creative maestro" given how he controls possession and his eye for a game-changing assist.

Humble Beginnings

This marks an incredible journey for the youngster from the neighborhood in his hometown, just outside Northern Ireland's main city, who was raised observing his parent, Stuart, also a central player, play for Ballyclare Comrades.

Red Devils Debut

Galbraith's single match for the Red Devils came in the away trip in 2019, a continental tournament trip to Astana, where they competed on an artificial pitch and the stadium roof was sealed owing to conditions of -15C. "That proved to be a long trip and it was chilly," he says, grinning. "The days leading up, several youth players and I worked out jointly, so that helped us acclimatise. Just to accompany the senior squad and earn some playing time at the end was unbelievable."

Departing Old Trafford

What was the challenge was it to depart Manchester United, the club he signed from his boyhood team aged 16? "This turned out fairly simple, because I arrived at the moment where I realized I wouldn't break through at the senior squad. I'm very appreciative for the time I spent there but it became apparent where I thought I required a fresh start, drop down the leagues and play men's football. Now I'm slowly climbing the ladder."

New Environment

It is the early part of the afternoon at the club's training ground but Galbraith has a commitment at 5pm: a learner's exam, another step towards getting on the road. Prior to relocating to the local area, the young professional was a frequent passenger in Swansea's dubbed team minibus, a minibus driven by team personnel, the transport team, which transports players to and from sessions and fixtures.

"It's myself Gonçalo Franco, Ronald, the midfielder – a former passenger used to be in it but has got his license. It's enjoyable to spend time with the lads but I'm planning to be the subsequent individual to drive independently and on the road. The Portuguese player enjoys practical jokes; he's frequently playing tricks."

Supporter Connections

During his time at his former club, Galbraith would blend in with followers on public transport after beginning his trip at his base. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
